Black Panther 2’s Namur costume could be inspired by the mysterious Thor character

At San Diego Comic-Con last weekend, Marvel fans got their first look at the eagerly awaited Black Panther: Wakanda Forever With the release of the first trailer for the movie. While this trailer gave fans a glimpse of what Wakanda and the world is like in the wake of T’Challa/Black Panther’s death, it also revealed a first look at Namor, who will make his MCU debut in the movie. Much of what fans have seen in Namor — played by Tenoch Huerta — largely aligns with the character’s iconic comic look, but we’ve also seen King Under the Sea in full logos for a while, and it seems likely that he was inspired by the mysterious ox Letter.

In the trailer at two separate points, we see Namur wearing an elaborate headdress – first around the 50s mark and then again around the 1:50 mark – and some additional details outside of the green swim briefs and various gold accents. It’s a stunning look, even if we can’t see it clearly. But for eagle-eyed Marvel Comics fans, the outfit seems to be very similar to a character they’ve seen before, albeit very briefly: Quetzalcoatl.

Quetzalcoatl appears noticeably on the pages annual bull Number 10 from 1982 by writers Mark Gruenwald and Alan Zelenetz. He’s not much of a look – Quetzalcoatl is just one of several deities from different deities that Thor joins with in order to save all the myth and divine realms from total oblivion – but in terms of visual appearance, we get a pretty good look at him. Described in the case is “A feathered Aztec serpent, its solar disk advancing defiantly” and you can check out the photo for yourself below.

Very similar to Namur in Black Panther: Wakanda Foreveris not it? It is a perfectly logical analogy. Quetzalcoatl is one of several important deities in Aztec culture and literature along with many other deities in the pantheon, including Tlālc. If this last deity sounds familiar to you, it’s because it was recently revealed that the name of the MCU on Atlantis – aka the underwater kingdom of Namur – is Talocan, which appears to be a derivation from the mythical Aztec paradise Tlālcān, which is described in several Aztec manuscripts as A paradise ruled by hills. It was also heavily rumored before Namur was confirmed for the film that the film might have taken cues from the Aztec and Mayan cultures when the enveloped gifts that appeared to have appeared for Pilotul, the Aztec god of the jaguar.

While we don’t know exactly what all the design references and inspirations for Namur’s overall look and logos are Black Panther: Wakanda ForeverAnd the Designer Anthony Francisco recently shared on social media He had a hand in creating a design idea for Namor Wakanda Forever’s look and Production designer Hannah Bechler also shared on social media That there was “about a ton of meaning” behind the group she was explaining more about when the movie was released – and she shared a photo of Namur descending on his throne.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever It opens in theaters November 11th.
